Milwaukee Gears Up for Playoff Run

The trade deadline promises to be full of surprises and usual rumors but even those ready for anything must have had an eyebrow raised at the news yesterday.

Whether it was rumors of Dwight Howard being handed the ultimate say over the job security of his coach and general manager in exchange for a contract extension or the breaking news of Monta Ellis and co. moving to Milwaukee with Steven Jackson and Andrew Bogut heading the other way, the trade deadline effect is in full swing.

Team of the Week: Milwaukee Bucks

Prior to acquiring their new pieces the Bucks went on a three game winning streak to close the gap between them and New York for the eight seed in the Eastern Conference. During that span, point guard Brandon Jennings has thrown the team on his back averaging 23 points and 7.6 assists. Ersan Ilyasova has been the other key piece to what is making the Bucks click, averaging 20 points and 6 rebounds. By adding Ellis, the Bucks bring a third scorer into the lineup and acquire big men from Golden State to replace the departed Bogut making them a legitimate playoff threat.

Player of the Week: Kris Humphries-New Jersey Nets

In a week where the Nets have to be asking themselves serious questions about their future should Dwight Howard stay in Orlando or end up elsewhere, Humphries showed they won’t struggle for paint presence as bad as they may fear by averaging 20 points and 13 rebounds in the last three games. It’s a stint that included a career high 31 point, 18 rebound performance against Milwaukee on Monday.

Dunk of the Week: Gerald Green-New Jersey Nets

Without Green in the league you don’t see these types of hops much. The fact is, he may not have all the skill and basketball IQ to be a superstar in this league, but he can dunk a basketball with the best of them. His best skill was on full display in this potential dunk of the season. Notice where his head is when he catches it. Oh my….

Block of the Week: Bismack Biyombo-Charlotte Bobcats

The rookie has begun to have an impact for the Bobcats, none more clearly felt than this game saving block against New Orleans to give Charlotte their sixth victory of the season. It was one of four blocks for him on the night.

Assist of the Week: Danilo Gallinari-Denver Nuggets

In the four games since his return from injury, Gallo hasn’t been able to resume his usual scoring tendencies, but he has been making an impact for Denver. Here it’s a brilliant no look assist to Chris Andersen.

Trick Shot of the Week:Dwyane Wade-Miami Heat

How many times have we seen him do this? He gets his man in the air, draws the contact and knocks down an off balance shot to win the game. It certainly won’t be the last time we see this as he’s as good as anyone in the business in the clutch.
