His point and rebound averages dropped the next two years while not hearing his name during the opening introductions. He has since come into his role coming off the bench. This year Haslem is still start-less, cornrow-less, but his production has picked back up and he is making an impact in South Beach. He leads the Heat in RPG and is third in the NBA in rebounds.
As of today Udonis is not blowing up the entire stat line. He is only averaging 7.8 PPG and 10.3 RPG. However, Haslem has recorded a double-double in his last two games.
The best part is he is still playing hard while having a cracked rib for the past five games. Haslem is listed as day-to-day, and with the aliments of Dwayne Wade and LeBron James, is making the best of the opportunity to show the Heat fans he can still get the job done. This past Saturday, in a win against the New Jersey Nets, Haslem finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and a block and assist.
It’s hard to say whether the double-double success will continue and help lift Miami to where they need to be, but you can assure Haslem will put up his numbers. Especially if he is already increasing production with a cracked rib.
But be careful for his future if you are trying to deal for him. More than likely his numbers will falter, unless given more minutes, when Wade and James make their return taking away his minutes and stats alike. But if you really need the rebound production now, Haslem will be a suitable acquisition.
